“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.” JFK
“I know a man who gave up smoking, drinking, sex, and rich food. He was healthy right up to the day he killed himself.” Johnny Carson
Most would agree that physical exercise and proper nutrition are important components for a good life. On the other hand, there are some who would not imagine denying themselves a single pleasure – let alone partake in any type of strenuous activity!
What type of person are you? Do you enjoy the benefits of self-discipline and good health? Are you doing all you can to look good, feel good or compete – or do you sneak a tasty treat whenever you can? However you choose to live your life, someone will always have another method which will get you to your goals with less effort or commitment on your part. Sounds attractive, but you know those methods are rarely effective, don’t you?
The same is true of the spiritual realm. Thousands of ways to God are advertised, but do they really all yield the right result? Think about this: do you put as much effort and commitment into your spiritual health as you do toward your physical health? After all, your body will die, however effective you are at slowing that process, but your soul is eternal. Where your soul will reside for eternity is of utmost importance.
What if I told you there is good news? That you can go to Heaven and live in paradise without any effort or commitment on your part. Like 2 minute abs, but better! Of course that is foolish. So what does it take to get to Heaven? It takes total commitment!
Yet commitment is only one key. Total commitment to the wrong spiritual plan is as worthless as total commitment to a poor exercise or dietary plan. Only commitment to the right path will bring success! Your commitment must be to the Truth: Jesus Christ. Jesus, who is fully God, became a man and lived the sinless life neither you nor I could live. He never broke any of God’s commandments such as lying, stealing, or coveting something which was not his. He never once looked at someone else with lust in His mind, something which He taught was adultery in God’s eyes.
Because of these sins we commit, we are all under God’s condemnation and ought to be punished forever for violating His perfect will. But God the Father who is rich in mercy, sent His Only Son Jesus to die on the cross, suffering the punishment for sinners, God’s holy wrath. But He didn’t stay in the grave! 3 days later, Jesus arose from the grave defeating death and exhibiting His power to conquer sin. Repent of your sin and turn to Jesus Christ as your Lord today! Trust His death and resurrection alone as the payment for your sins, and you will have eternal life with Him and be forgiven of all your offenses toward God. God will send His Holy Spirit to live in you as a promise of your future deliverance from this body of sin!
Isn’t that Good News? Yes it is. This took total commitment from Jesus – and it takes your total commitment to Him. Won’t you turn to Him today and beg Him that you may be reconciled to God through Him?
