Congratulations Shopper! You’ve conquered Thanksgiving and now you are braving Black Friday, full of tryptophan. Please be careful on this busy shopping day. In 2008, a 34-year-old man was killed in Long Island, NY as shoppers trampled him to death on Black Friday. It should sober us to the fact that death can come at anytime, even while we’re shopping. It is appointed for man to die once, then after that comes judgment. On Judgment Day, how will you stand according to God’s standard, The Ten Commandments? How many times have you lied? Ever stolen anything? How many times have you lusted after someone? God sees that as adultery of the heart. Ever hated someone? God sees that as murder of the heart. Have you ever coveted; desired more than you already have? By your own admission, God sees you as a lying, thieving, covetous, adulterer and murderer at heart. God is just, He will punish those who break His laws by sentencing them to hell for eternity. Are you broken and humbled by the fact that you’ve sinned against a holy God? Then there’s Good News for you. What if someone perfect and innocent stood in your place as a substitute and took the punishment that you deserve? That’s what Jesus did for you. God came down as a man who lived a sinless life. He was tempted, but never once sinned. Jesus suffered and died on the cross for your behalf to satisfy the wrath of God. Simply, Jesus paid your fine in His life’s blood. The day that the Son of God suffered and died for your sins is called Good Friday. Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead, defeating death. Jesus’ physical death and bodily resurrection accomplished forgiveness of sins and everlasting life to those who repent and trust in Him. You must repent of your sin; turn from all you know to be sin. Don’t trust in your good works; they can’t save you. As you turn from sin, turn to Jesus Christ and abandon yourself; place your faith in Him. Jesus alone will save you.
Today as you participate in Black Friday, please consider the better deal that happened on Good Friday. What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his soul? Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart. Repent and believe the Gospel.
