Did You Know...
that more than two-thirds of Americans profess to have "faith" in God? But, in Matthew 7:22-23, Jesus Christ says, "Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." These people were sincere, yet they were unprepared to meet God. Many today are living under this same spiritual delusion. The average American often speaks of "having faith" and assumes that their church affiliation, their water baptism or an insincere prayer they once prayed will get them into heaven. But, notice the people in Matthew 7 did not lack religious activity or a belief in God. What they did not have was a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. He told them to depart because he had never known them. They had never been born again and were “none of his.” (Rom. 8:9). What about you? Are you prepared to meet God? Is your faith in fact or fiction?
A misplaced faith, no matter how sincere, will not deliver you in the day of judgment. Your faith must be in the facts of the Bible. You must come to God on his terms and his terms are found in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Will you honestly face the following facts as revealed in the Holy Bible?
Fact No. 1: Your Sinfulness
Jeremiah 17:9 states, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: Who can know it?" The Lord knows it. In Mark 7:21-23, Jesus Christ says, "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man." Do you see your own heart somewhere in those verses? Romans 3:22-23 says, "For there is no difference: For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Examine your heart and life against the Ten Commandments. If you are honest, you will find you have broken God's Law and will be found guilty in the day of judgment. "Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners shall inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Cor. 6:9-10).
Fact No. 2: Your Sentence
God keeps a record. Your actions, words and intentions will one day come out as evidence against you. Since God is holy and just, he must punish all unrighteousness."Be sure your sin will find you out. Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness... And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." (Num. 32:23; Acts 17:31; Rev. 20:12, 15).
How can a guilty sinner ever get by this judgment? Is there any hope? Is there mercy with the Lord? Absolutely! "The Lord...is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. For with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption." (2 Pet. 3:9; Psalm 130:7).
Fact No. 3: The Saviour
In his love for sinners, God has provided the way of salvation for you! "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. I declare unto you the gospel...how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. And ye know that he (Jesus Christ) was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. And, having made peace through the blood of his cross...he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." (Rom. 5:8; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; 1 John 3:5; Col. 1:20; Heb. 7:25; Acts 16:31).
Be not deceived. Salvation is not found in your religion, your good works, your good intentions or your feelings. Salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone! "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus," who said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." (1Tim. 2:5; Matt. 11:28; John 6:37).
So, Why Not Now?
Please don't delay. "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." (2 Cor. 6:2). Repent from your dead works and trust Jesus Christ. Receive him as your Lord and Saviour today! "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (John 1:12; Rom. 10:9).
Could my tears forever flow,
Could my zeal no languor know,
These for sin could not atone,
Thou must save, and Thou alone:
In my hand no price I bring,
Simply to Thy cross I cling.
