Tick…Tick…Tick…
The sound of the second hand moving across the face of the clock. I’ll never look at a clock the same way ever again. Statistics tell us that for every second that passes on that clock, 2 people die. Someone, somewhere, has just taken their final breath. And it’s not just the elderly, or people in third world countries. It happens all around us, our Friends, Neighbors, Co-Workers, Family, Husbands, Wives, Fathers, Mothers, Children … 160,000 people every day walk out of this life, and into Eternity. All these people are either going into Heaven…or Hell. No turning back, no second chances. And the sad truth is that most of them are going into Hell. A recent poll indicated that for every American who believes he or she is going to Hell, there are 120 who believe they are going to Heaven. But this goes against what Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14: “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.”
So, what are we supposed to do about it? Well, Jesus made it very clear when he called His disciples. “Follow Me, and I will make you fisher’s of men.” Fisher’s of men, He said! He didn’t say, “Follow Me and you can sit on the docks and watch other people fish, maybe even give them a good round of applause when they catch something.” No! He clearly gave each and every one of us the responsibility of reaching out to those around us and sharing with them the good news of Christ. We don’t have to go far and wide to find lost people, they’re all around us, this is our mission field! Look around at your friends, family, neighbors, the people you work with. These are the people God has put in your life so that you can minister to them. Share with them what God has done in your own life, tell them how He saved you, sometimes this just means talking to someone. People are hungry for truth and meaning. You don’t have to be a preacher to reach out, just a child of God.
Time is short, there may not be a tomorrow for someone in your life. Please don’t wait until it’s too late. You may go to work tomorrow to find out that your boss died of a heart attack last night, or you may get a call that your nephew had a car accident…and did you ever talk to him? Did you reach out? Or did you think, “It’s not the right time, maybe tomorrow, maybe next time…” and now that time has passed.
Romans 10:13-14 says: “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them?”
Please, follow your heart, listen to what God is saying to you, tell others about Him, before it’s too late.
