The Word of God tells us that one sin... one little white lie, one attitude of ungodly jealousy, one slip, one failure, one sin, completely alienates us from God and merits His judgment. God doesn't grade on a curve. He isn't comparing you to someone worse, but grading you on His own standard of perfection... It's one thing to fail a course at the university. It's another to fail God, and face eternal damnation as a result.
This is why God took on flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. He lived a sinless, holy life, and ultimately suffered the anguish and humiliation of a criminal... He bled, died, and rose again the third day, according to the Scriptures. He accomplished what sinners could not. He “made the grade” according to His Father, and promises to save sinners who place their hope in Him alone. Their sin will be exchanged for His perfection and His perfection for their sin.
Today, do not harden your heart. Acknowledge that God is not grading you on a curve. He expects sinless perfection. Believe that because you cannot and will not achieve that perfection, you need a Savior: Jesus Christ. Confess to Him your sin and inability for perfection. Today, repent. Turn away from sin to Christ, and acknowledge that you have not made the grade.
