“You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48) Hoping you’re “good enough” for Heaven? Sorry, but it’s already game over. God’s holiness and uncompromising justice demands your flawless obedience to ALL of His commands—in thought, word, and deed. How are you doing with that?! Can you claim to have never lied, stolen, or blasphemed God’s holy name? What about pridefully putting yourself before others (James 4:6), or harboring anger or lust? (Matthew 5:22,27,28) Your record of sin confirms the Bible’s assessment: “None is righteous, no, not one…no one does good, not even one.” (Romans 3:11,12) Because of this you are separated from God (Isaiah 59:2), deserving His eternal condemnation in a dreadful place the Bible calls Hell. (Matthew 25:46, Revelation 21:8) And it’s impossible for you to make it right! (John 1:12-13)
But, “What is impossible with man is possible with God”! (Luke 18:27) God the Father took action by sending His Son Jesus, who is both truly God and truly man, to do what you could not! Jesus alone fulfilled God’s standard of perfection, because He never sinned (Hebrews 4:15). Yet, Jesus suffered and died on the cross as a substitute for sinners, receiving the just punishment you rightly deserve for your sins against God. He defeated sin and death by rising from the grave alive! (1 Corinthians 15:55-57)
What is impossible for you, Jesus fully accomplished! Forgiveness of sin is found only in Him. There is salvation in no one else but Jesus Christ! (Acts 4:12) As God gives you the faith to trust in His Son, He grants you the repentance (change of heart/mind/desires) that leads to eternal life. (Acts 11:18) Surrender all that you are to Jesus Christ and follow Him! (Philippians 3:7-11)
