Most people would feel "lucky" to find the pot of gold on the front of this card. The truth is, no amount of gold can help you with the biggest problem you face in life: the reality of sin, death, judgment, and Hell. Jesus said, "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Mark 8:36-37)
To see your spiritual bankruptcy and lack of righteousness before a Holy God, look at His Ten Commandments. If you've lied, stolen, taken God's name in vain, or looked at a person with lust, God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous adulterer. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Matthew 5:28). This means an eternity in Hell because God is perfectly Holy and Just. BUT, God is also full of grace, mercy and love, and has provided the way of salvation - in His Son.
JESUS came, fully God and fully man (John 1:14). He lived a sinless life (Hebrews 4:15), died on the cross as a substitute to pay our sin debt (Colossians 2:14), and rose from the dead, proving the penalty fully paid.
God commands you to repent and trust in JESUS ALONE for salvation, not in your "good works.” Cry out to God for mercy and put your faith in JESUS, confessing and forsaking your sins. God will change your heart so you will desire holiness. The real "pot of gold" is CHRIST - His perfect righteousness credited to your eternal account is the most prized possession you could ever have. Be warned: to hypocrites JESUS will say, “I never knew you: depart from Me, you that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:23b). The Bible commands “examine yourself,” so compare yourself to the book of 1 John to see if your salvation is genuine. Get right with God today.
