“GOSPEL” We've all heard the word, but can you define it? What does the word “GOSPEL” mean?
In a Biblical context, the word gospel means – “Good News,” or “Glad Tidings.”
Jesus told His followers to bring the “GOSPEL,” or this “Good News,” to the entire world. Sometimes, the best way to appreciate what is good is to compare it with what is bad. So what makes the “Good News" of the gospel so good?
1. The Bad News is everyone is a sinner…
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" (Romans 3:23)
BUT, the Good News is Jesus came to save SINNERS.
"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." (Luke 19:10)
2. The Bad News is we will die one day…
“For the wages of sin is death…”(Romans 6:23)
BUT, the Good News is Jesus rose from the dead.
"He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay." (Matthew 28:6)
3. The Bad News is we cannot save ourselves…
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
But the Good News is eternal life is offered to us as a gift.
"But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23b)
4. The Good News is Good News only if we believe it.
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him”(John 3:36)
But the Good News is we can choose to believe.
"Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?" (John 11:25)

5. How do we receive the "Good News" of the Gospel?
“Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Acts 20:21)
• We must REPENT, or
acknowledge our sinfulness,
before God.
• We must BELIEVE in the
Gospel of Jesus Christ–His
death, burial , and
resurrection.
• We must RESPOND in faith–
by calling upon the Lord.
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9)
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)
