Many Americans failed to acknowledge you when you came home from the war. Or worse, they heckled, and some even spit on you. You had already been through enough. Our ignorance was salt in the wound. It is a blemish on American history, and an ache in our hearts. Please forgive us. You were willing to pay the price for our freedom. You may still be suffering for it. There is someone who knows exactly what you went through. He knows what its like to serve others, and then be rejected by them - to be abandoned, even by friends and family. He was mocked, spat upon, whipped, beaten beyond recognition, and finally crucified. He came to bring freedom - from sin and death. He made the ultimate sacrifice, and He was rejected - by those He created. His name is Jesus.
Then they spat in His face and beat Him; and others struck Him with the palms of their hands. (Matt 26:67) But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His [wounds] we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5) Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down ones life for his friends. (John 15:13.)
Jesus is the ultimate soldier, in the battle against an unseen enemy that seeks to destroy souls and condemn people to hell.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)
Dont be devoured - not by the past - not by the present - not by any scheme of satan. You are a cherished creation. Come to the creator, with your burden of guilt, anger, unforgiveness, or any sin that has taken you captive. God can forgive lying, stealing, lust and any other sin. Seek Jesus forgiveness, and be set free. Jesus rose from the grave. He can give you new life. He will strengthen you in times of trouble. You will not fear death.
Jesus said "Repent and believe in the gospel." (Mark 1:15) Repentance involves agreeing that what God says is true; He won't overlook the guilty, we are all sinners, and that Christ died for our sins, rising from the dead. This will lead to genuine sorrow, shame and even hatred for what we have done. It will also result in a lifestyle of turning away from sin, and trusting in Jesus alone for salvation. Repent, believe the good news, and find rest for your soul today!
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matt 11:28)
