Tract Text:
Zombie-like characters known as the walking dead are the featured attraction in many movies and TV shows these days. These monsters may seem pretty scary, but it’s even more frightening to read about the type of walking dead mentioned in the Bible!
“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked…” (Ephesians 2:1-2)
“trespasses and sins” mean failure to obey our Creator. God’s righteousness, holiness, and uncompromising justice demand our flawless obedience to Him in every way—in thought, word, and deed! But we’ve all sinned against God (Ephesians 2:3) by lying, stealing, and blaspheming His holy name. Even pridefully putting ourselves above others (James 4:6), or harboring thoughts of anger or lust (Matthew 5:22-30) is evidence of our walking dead in sin! Our plight is a scary one indeed, because divine justice demands the eternal condemnation of sinners to a dreadful place the Bible calls Hell. (Matthew 25:46, Revelation 21:8)
Walking dead people desperately need life. So God, being rich in mercy, sent His Son Jesus—who is both fully God and fully man—that we might have eternal life! (Ephesians 2:4-7) Jesus alone fulfilled God’s standard of perfection by never sinning. (Hebrews 4:15) Yet, Jesus willingly suffered and died on the cross as a substitute, receiving the just punishment sinners deserve for their trespasses against a holy God (Colossians 2:13-14), defeating sin and death by rising from the grave alive! (1 Corinthians 15:55-57)
Because of Christ’s finished work on the cross, you can go from walking dead to walking in newness of life! (Romans 6:4) God can change your heart’s desires, enabling you to forsake sin to love and serve Him, to walk in a manner worthy of Christ! Repent of your sin and believe this good news of salvation by God’s grace alone through faith in Jesus alone! (Mark 1:15)
